Honda a anunţat astăzi că, începând din 2011, Honda Civic Type R nu va mai fi vândută într-o serie de ţări europene.
Modelul în 3 uşi de 200 CP, capabil de 8000 rpm, şi-a făcut debutul ca şi concept la salonul auto de la Geneva, în 2006. Combinaţia de muchii ascuţite şi stilul agresiv a fost neaşteptat, predecesorul său având un stil mult mai conservator.
Versiunea de producţie a fost dezvăluită tot în 2006, la Salonul Auto de la Paris, cu un aspect care a fost aproape identic cu cel al conceptului prezentat mai devreme în acel an.
Decizia de a opri vânzările în majoritatea ţărilor din Europa a fost luată deoarece automobilul nu îndeplineşte, în prezent, reglementările Euro 5. Introducerea Euro 5 înseamnă că modelul Civic Type R mai poate fi comercializat numai până la sfârşitul lui Ianuarie 2011 pe pieţele unde aceste reguli se aplică. Modelul, asamblat exclusiv în Marea Britanie, va continua să fie vândut pe pieţele în care reglementările permit acest lucru, şi va rămâne în producţie la uzina din Swindon.
